Britains Toy Soldiers - The History and Handbook 1893-2013 by James Opie
22 Mar, 2017
Probably the best overall work on Britains soldiers.
I'm not sure where we Britains collectors would be without James Opie. He knows the line inside-out and backwards - as do others, but his several erudite works over the years benefit us all. This one, obviously, is the most up-to-date and deals with the entire, long history of Britains soldiers from the beginning to (almost) the present, and is chaptered by what Opie refers to as The Seven Ages of Britains. The first four chapters cover the hollow-cast eras, the final three the overlaping plastic, and die-cast models. It is packed with captioned color photos and easily digested text, plus the thorough index and appendices so useful to a quick look-up. The size and weight of the book are very manageable this time, and I can give it only the highest recommendation to all who take their toy soldiers seriously.
